7 Day We'll walk rugged rocky coastlines, along georgeous isolated white beaches, and through traditional fishing villages such as Peggy's Cove. We might see the endangered Piping Plover as we walk. A boat trip featuring whale and puffin watching is offered (weather dependent) if you wish. We'll take a lamp-lit guided tour of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the Bay of Fundy we'll explore the floor of the sea when the 40-50 foot tides are out. We'll walk dikes first created by Acadians in the 17th century, and stroll Port Royal, a restored fort founded by Champlain in 1605 the first European permanent settlement outside of Florida.

We'll hike Cape Split, a peninsula jutting into the Bay of Fundy, and watch and listen as the world's highest tides rip past us 300 feet below. Every night we'll relax in historic country inns that serve superb meals prepared with fresh produce from the sea.

Day 1 We'll meet at your downtown hotel or inn at 9:30 am. Traveling along the picturesque South Shore, we'll walk a rugged isolated coastline to a traditional fishing village. We'll picnic watching the waves then transfer farther down the coast to famous Peggys's Cove, a village with the most photographed lighthouse in the province. There's an opportunity (weather permitting) to take a Whale and Puffin Watching cruise from the village. A walk at a Cove nearby will be a delight if you don't want the cruise. We'll stay at a comfortable County Inn and dine on fresh lobster. (A total of 3 hours of moderate to easy walks)

Day 2 We'll drive farther down the coast for a hike along Gold River, a river where gold has been panned for over 200 years and a haven for fishers casting for salmon. We'll travel through small South Shore villages and picnic near the town of Lunenburg, a United Nations World Heritage Site. We'll walk a trail skirting the town, then explore Lunenburg leaving some time to shop, explore, and/or go to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic on the docks. A lamp-lit historic walk of Lunenburg after dinner is a favorite with guests. We'll stay at an Historic Lunenburg Inn. (3 or more hours of walking)

Day 3 We'll walk isolated Hirtle's Beach and Gaff Point peninsula to view West Ironbound Island off the tip. After a picnic, we'll take short coastal hikes and visit the 'Ovens', huge caves carved by the ocean that create a thunder-like sounds at high tide. We'll stay at the same inn in Lunenburg. (3 to 4 hours of walking on moderate trails)

Day 4 We'll transfer to Kejimkujik National Park to walk nature trails and view wildlife. Then drive to the Bay of Fundy to explore Port Royal, a fort which was the first permanent European settlement in North America north of Florida (in 1605). We'll then take a hike along the shores of the Bay of Fundy where the 40 foot tides expose up to a mile of volcanic rock when the tide is out and a beautiful waterfall drops into a hidden cove. We'll stay at an historic inn in Annapolis Royal with a choice of excellent dining facilities. A spooky graveyard walk in the evening is an option. (4 to 5 hours of walking on gentle to moderate trails)

Day 5 We'll explore Annapolis Royal with it's Historic Gardens, market, and the oldest house in Canada. We'll then transfer to Longfellow's land of Evangaline, Grand Pre for a picnic and a walk on the dykes first created by the Acadians in the 1600's. When the 45 foot tides in the Bay of Fundy are low, we'll walk on the bottom of the sea and find fossils of plants and animals that lived 350 million years ago. (activities today depend upon the timing of the tides) We'll stay at an historic inn in Wolfville. (Walk up to 4 hours)

Day 6 Today we will hike the peninsula which splits the Bay of Fundy in two. At the top of this peninsula you can see and hear the rip tide 300 feet below as the highest tides in the world tear into the Minas Basin. We then travel back to Halifax to arrive at 4-5 pm. (5 hours of hiking)
