| Day 1 | You will be greeted at St. Anthony or Deer Lake airport by a representative and taken to the lodge. After you meet the staff and settle away, your week of kayaking adventure begins with an orientation and safety briefing. This is followed by an introductory course on kayaking for people not familiar with the sport, and a practice session on the peaceful waters of Southwest Pond. |
| Day 2 | After a hearty breakfast, you will take the half hour drive to Grandois, a small village located southeast of the lodge. From there, you will board your kayaks and paddle northwards on the Atlantic Ocean. The invigorating salt sea air fills your lungs as you work your way to the Fishot Islands. There, you will see the remains of an abandoned fishing village and gain an appreciation of the struggle fishermen and their families once faced to make a simple, yet rewarding living. Sight whales and icebergs, an awesome sight. Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening. |
| Day 3 | After a soothing rest, we take you to an environment in sharp contrast with the ocean. Today, you will experience the serenity of the Salmon River. You'll launch your kayaks miles upstream and follow the meanders of the river back to the lodge. Along the way, spy on moose grazing lily pads in the shallow stretches, see Atlantic salmon jump and pool around their spawning habitat and hear the distant, chilling cries of loons. As you travel the river, you'll see areas of reclaimed river habitat where local community groups and Tuckamore Lodge have partnered to restore. |
| Day 4 | Return to the sea as you kayak the eastern perimeter of Hare Bay. More adventurous paddlers can journey to Maiden's Arm, a scenic fjord where local myths tell of pirates and lost booty. Eagles soar in the mist of the surrounding hills which are said to have shrouded the masts of hiding ships. Closer to home, stop by Shoal Arm where you'll pick your own mussels from the clear intertidal zone and enjoy a feast on the beach. Throughout the day, you will encounter icebergs, seabirds, and marine mammals. |
| Day 5 | Gain an appreciation of local history as you take the day to relax. Choose from a selection of land based activities. Take a short drive to L'Anse aux Meadows to visit the Viking Site, spend the morning hiking at a local fossil site, go fishing. |
| Day 6 | Kayak to Salt Pond, which fills with salt water at high tide and returns to fresh at low tide, and W-Cove. Explore the quiet coves and learn about mussel farming- a venture prevelant in some of the coves along the way. See where the earliest settlers of Main Brook established camps to reap the bounty of the forests and walk the trails inland from W-Cove which follow old dog team routes. |
| Day 7 | Return home or continue your journey in Newfoundland and Labrador. |
