Idaho's Salmon River - 5 Day $960pp. $850/youth (under 16).
Idaho's Main
Salmon river, running through the heart of the largest wilderness area
in the lower 48 states, is a classic river. Broad, sandy beaches,
roller
coaster and rock garden rapids, riverside wildlife such as moose and
Bighorn sheep, emerald waters, hot springs, old ranch sites from days
of
yore, and one of the
deepest canyons in the world, combine to form an unparalleled setting
for a wilderness rafting journey. As Bill Cross, one of our guides and
co-author of Western Whitewater, the definitive river running
guidebook,
states, 'of all that I've boated, this is the nicest all around river
I've ever been on.'
Our trips begin in Salmon and finish near McCall, Idaho. Five and six days in length, these journeys are perfect for everyone. Thrilling rapids, such as Salmon Falls, Big Mallard, and Bailey Falls get adrenaline flowing. Long, calm pools allow you to unwind. The campsites provide perfect settings to sit back and relax in the peace of a wild place. Our variety of crafts allow for complete whitewater experiences: paddle boats for those wanting to be part of a team driving a raft through boiling waters, oar boats for all who prefer to sit back and watch the world drift by, self-bailing kayaks for kids of all ages seeking full control of their destiny, and solo cats, stable and nimble one-person river catarafts, for adventurers seeking the latest in rafting technology. And, we feature the finest river menu available. Breakfasts are multi-course presentations that fuel your system for a day of pleasure. Delicatessen style lunches are laid out before you on river's edge, replete with fresh meats, vegetables, fruits, and other snacks. Tasty happy-hour hors d'oeuvres and beverages are presented daily as a salute to a great day of rafting. And the dinners, aahh the dinners. Marinated and grilled steak, chicken, fish, shishkabobs. Delicious and wholesome pasta and potato side dishes. Fresh green salads. And warm Dutch oven cakes and other delicious pastries. The meals also include a variety of beverages, including aromatic cowboy coffee and espresso. In addition, any special dietary needs you have are gladly honored. Vegetarian meals are a pleasure for us to create. Includes: All lodging, meals, equipment and guides. Dates: May - September Difficulty: Moderate |

| Main Salmon River Trip Overview | Our Main Salmon trips begin in Salmon, Idaho, and end in McCall, Idaho. The trips are 5 or 6 days in length and approximately 85 miles long. We put in at Corn Creek and take out at Carey Creek. Transportation from McCall to Boise or Salmon via air charter, or shuttle of your car to McCall is included in the price. All river and camping gear and gourmet meals (from lunch on the first day through lunch on the last day) are also included. Please plan to arrive in Salmon the night before your trip and to depart from McCall the morning after your trip. |
| Orientation Meeting | We meet at the Stagecoach Inn, in Salmon, Idaho, at 7 p.m. the night before your trip. Your guides will answer questions and distribute waterproof bags. Car shuttles will be finalized at this time. Please be aware that Idaho state law limits the sale of alcohol to Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. |
| Trip Departure | A bus or van will be waiting in front of the Stagecoach at 7:30 a.m. the first morning of your trip for an 8 a.m. departure and the three hour drive to the Corn Creek launch. Much of the road is unpaved, so be prepared for a slow trip. Also, please be prompt and eat a hearty breakfast before 8. |
| On the River | We keep a leisurely pace on the river and time is usually gauged by meals alone. We even recommend you remove your watch. However, you can expect breakfast near 8 a.m., lunch midday and about 5-6 hours of rafting a day. We generally reach camp by mid-afternoon with time for hikes, camp set-up, fishing, happy hour snacks and beverages, and relaxation before dinner. Each day on the Salmon brings great whitewater, endless scenery, countless wildlife viewing opportunities, superb sand beach stopping points, interesting side-hikes, and on and on. In addition, you have a choice each day of which craft to ride in: paddle rafts, oar boats, or inflatable kayaks. |
| Trip Conclusion | Your trip ends after lunch on the last day. We will travel by bus or van from our take-out to McCall, in time for dinner. However, due to the unpredictability of wilderness travel, please plan flights home for the next morning. In McCall, you will be flown back by air charter to either Boise or Salmon, or your car will be waiting, having been shuttled for you from Salmon. |
