We explore by foot and (optional) horseback Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, which offers beautiful landscapes, interesting rock formations and is home to rich bird and plant life. We also enjoy staying in a traditional Mongolian ger (felt tents of nomadic herders) as well as a folk performance featuring traditional hoomi (throat) singers, Mongolian dancers and musicians.

Day 1 Morning flight from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, drive to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Overnight in gers, the traditional felt tents of nomadic herders.

Day 2 Spend the day exploring Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, which includes the southern Khentii mountain range. This mountain forest steppe region offers beautiful landscapes including interesting rock formations and is home to rich bird and plant life. Also sheltered in this protected area are endangered musk deer and moose, brown bear, roe, elk, wolf, fox and badger. Dinner and overnight at ger camp.

Day 3 Continue exploration of the park with more hiking and optional horseback riding opportunities. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar in the early afternoon. Upon arrival, visit Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia. Stroll through the monastery grounds and visit the reconstruction and renovation projects of the Chenrezi and Kalachakra Temples, as well as the magnificent statue of Migjid Janraisig ("the lord who looks in every direction"). This 82-foot high statue, gilded in pure gold and clothed with silk and precious stones, completely fills one of Gandan's temples. Opportunities for shopping in the afternoon. In the evening, enjoy a folk performance featuring traditional hoomi (throat) singers, Mongolian dancers and musicians. Sample traditional Mongolian dishes while dining at a large ger, like one once owned by Chingis Khan.

Day 4 After breakfast, transfer to the airport for flight to Beijing.
