adventure
is a basic gorilla trek and safari. Winston Churchill called Uganda
the 'Pearl of Africa,' and President Clinton praised the country's
progress on his landmark 1998 tour of Africa. This beautiful East
African country is rich in primates. Nowhere else in Africa can you see
so many, including the endangered mountain gorilla. Bwindi National
Park
has more of the great apes than any other park in Africa. Treks to see
the gorillas are for the physically fit. Queen Elizabeth National Park
is a Mecca for bird watchers, with more than 500 species. The Kasinga
Channel boasts the world's highest concentration of hippo. For the
intrepid, Uganda offers unparalleled walking safaris, plus
mountaineering from the Mountains of the Moon to the Virungas and Mt.
Elgon.

| Day 1 | Leave Hanoi by car for Lao Cai. Stop at Yen Bai on the way for lunch. After lunch continue to Lao Cai. Visit Dao and Hmong villages. Arrive at Lao Cai in the late afternoon, visit the Sino-Vietnam border and continue to Sapa. Overnight in Sapa. [L,D] |
| Day 2 | Drive from Sapa to drop-off at Ma Cha. From Ma Cha trek to Ta Phin, a Red Dao village (7 km). During the trek to Ta Phin, enjoy the beautiful scenery of the valley, rice terraces and an old church dating back to French colonial times. Arrive at Ta Phin about noon. After lunch, trek in the hills around the village and visit Black Hmong villages. We have a wonderful opportunity to learn more about hilltribes, understand their daily life and culture. Return for dinner and overnight at Ta Phin. [B,L,D] |
| Day 3 | Early morning, start to trek back to Sapa (13 km). Having lunch in a local restaurant in Sapa. Briefly shop in the local market. After lunch trek up to Hau Thao village (12 km). Hau Thao is a Catholic village and all the villagers are very religious. After dinner, we have the opportunity to talk with the villagers about their lives. Overnight in Hao Thao village. [B,L,D] |
| Day 4 | Trek from Hau Thao up to the top of the mountain and then descend along a stream to Sapa (5 km). Overnight in Sapa. [B,L,D] |
| Day 5 | Trek 1 km to the road, where we will be picked up and transferred to Bac Ha. Visit the most colorful hilltribe market in the area. Drive back to Yen Ba for lunch and on to Hanoi. [B,L] |
